Grey Hair Matters “(GHM”) is a recently established multi-sided platform that introduces two important groups of people to each other. The first group are entrepreneurs who run small businesses and who need professional advice to help them start , run and grow them successfully.
The second group are highly skilled professionals who are able to provide them with that essential advice. GHM’s unique feature is that all our highly experienced professionals have retired from full time employment. Because GHM is not their primary source of income and they no longer work for firms that have to carry a large overhead they are able to provide their professional advice at a much lower cost than the established firms.
In the UK companies with less than 250 employees together employ 60 per cent of the private sector workforce. The economic future of the UK depends now more than ever on their success. Together these companies spend over £60 billion annually on professional advice. However, in the legal area alone for instance , these companies are estimated to be losing some £15 billion annually by not getting proper legal advice.
These companies have a great need for affordable expert professional advice across a wide spectrum of subjects. Subjects such as legal , accounting , banking , fund raising , property , HR , PR and marketing issues. They have little personal experience of these subjects to draw on and therefore really need expert advice from outside.
In most cases it is difficult for them to identify who they should approach and how they should go about it. When they do make contact with an advisory firm the cost appears to be enormous. The result is that most firms that desperately need professional advice don’t actually get it.
Professionals , who have advised companies over a lifetime , are increasingly retiring earlier. The average retirement age of a partner at a major law or accountancy firm is an unbelievably low 55 . Many retire at that age unwillingly but do so to make way for the younger generation coming through.
For most retirement comes at the pinnacle of their careers , when their skills are at their height and the wealth of their experience and expertise is enormous. In most cases these retirees are suddenly no longer in a position to apply their knowledge constructively or put to good use the vast reservoir of knowledge and experience accumulated during their careers which is a cause of great frustration to many of them.
Even more importantly the great value of this experience is lost to the country as a whole. This loss is further compounded by the fact that these professionals have the ability not only to provide their direct expertise .They are also able to apply a valuable perspective on the general business decisions that small businesses need to take.
